In the unit From Curatorship to Exhibition, we explored an integrated and experimental approach to exhibition-making. Our site was an abandoned residential building near Ciutadella Park in Barcelona, originally associated with the 1888 International Exhibition, and now standing on the threshold between memory and erasure. Soon to be demolished, this building presented a unique opportunity to construct meaning within a space where function and significance had been temporarily suspended.
Our five final projects (Liminal Breath, Demolition: Points of Impact, Her Name is C., Counter-Restoration: A Celebration of Entropy, The Reverence Table: Ritual for a Vanishing Body) proposed new narratives and spatial interventions within this fragile, vanishing context.
Wellington 26 evolved beyond the master’s program and was exhibited in the exhibition hall of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra Ciutadella Campus. The short films documenting each of the five interventions acquire a new materiality as they are projected onto the concrete walls of the exhibition space. At the center of the show stands a sculptural installation specially created for the occasion, composed of the remnants of each intervention carried out in the abandoned building.
