What if, in the absence of light, we could see what was once hidden?

Eixir is a site-specific installation created by MEATS (Elisava) students for the Llum BCN Festival 2025. Installed on a wall historically used for protest graffiti in Poblenou, the project reimagines darkness as a space of revelation—amplifying the voices of a community fighting for the redevelopment of their square and its renaming to Plaça Manel Andreu.

In Catalan, eixir means "to emerge," to become visible after being hidden. Developed in collaboration with the Poblenou Neighborhood Association, the installation was shaped through participatory workshops with local residents and children. Through surveys and creative sessions, we gathered memories, feelings, and hopes, which were transformed into stenciled messages projected by torches housed inside wooden boxes.

LED strips and motion sensors were programmed so that, as people approached the wall, the lights gradually dimmed—revealing the community’s voice through the act of presence. In this choreography of light and shadow, it was not illumination, but its absence, that revealed the truth.

The project received an Honorable Mention in 2025 Young Talent Award at the Llum BCN Festival for community engagement and was featured in El Poblenou magazine.

A collective act of memory, resistance, and co-creation.
